GHLA provides 4 different types of educational opportunities:

Second Semester Registrations:

    • School Engage registration forms submitted between November 15th 2024 and January 15th 2025 will be assured careful consideration. However, due to course capacity limitations, some registrations may be declined on a course by course basis. 
    • Acceptance/Placements will be determined based on availability and program requirements rather than on a first-come, first-served basis. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance/placement.
    • To be considered for acceptance/placement in a course(s), all students must be registered as a primary student in an Alberta school division, as of Sept 27th, 2024.
    • Once you have been accepted, you will receive a confirmation email.  You may not be receiving access to your course (a welcome email with login information) until the first day of Semester 2, February 3rd 2025, unless otherwise communicated
  • Parent-directed homeschool education

  • Blended Learning Program

    • A combination of teacher and parent-directed learning

  • Summer School

**GHSD students- Do not click "Register Now!" Please sign into PowerSchool and click on SchoolEngage from the left menu to register!

Summer School Registration Process

Steps for in-division or current GHLA students to register with for Summer School:

  1. Sign in to your PowerSchool account
  2. Choose SchoolEngage from the left menu
  3. Choose the "GHLA Summer School Registration 2024 Golden Hills Students" form
  4. Wait for the "GHLA Summer School Acceptance and Fee Request" email. These acceptance emails may not go out until May.
  5. Follow the instructions to send the $100 enhancement fee within 7 days 
  6. Once the fee is received you will get their Welcome Email with Moodle login details when the courses are ready.

Steps for NEW students to Golden Hills School Division or students that have registered with GHLA in the past, but are not currently taking classes with GHLA:

  1. Click on "Register Now!" below.
  2. Past students will sign in to their existing SchoolEngage account, New students will create a new SchoolEngage account ( A parent account if the student is under 18yrs and then add the student to that account) or an independent student account if they are over 18yr.
  3. Choose the "2024 SUMMER SCHOOL REGISTRATION Golden Hills Learning Academy" form
  4. Wait for the "GHLA Summer School Acceptance and Fee Request" email. These acceptance emails may go out until May.
  5. Follow the instructions to send the $100 enhancement fee within 7 days 
  6. Once the fee is received you will get their Welcome Email with Moodle login details when the courses are ready.

Summer School

2024 GHLA Summer School Registration Opens April 17th- Closed June 15th Register Now!

You will be directed to School Engage where you will sign in or create a new account. 

*For part-time or full-time online students, please choose the "2024-2025 ONLINE PROGRAM Student Registration"

*For Home Education, Parent-led learning, please choose the "Home Education Registration 2024-2025 K-12"

Once your registration has been submitted you will get an automated message that your application was successful. We will process the applications in the order they are received and will be in contact with details regarding your selected program.

**If you are already a student of GHLA DO NOT fill out an additional registration form. Instead, fill out an "Additional Course Request" on SchoolEngage or call our office.

Checklist

To ensure your student can begin their classes as soon as possible:

  • Choose the correct registration form in SchoolEngage.(see above)
  • Provide a birth certificate or other legal document to verify full legal name and date of birth. Other valid documents include landed immigrant documents, Canadian citizenship documents, change of name certificates, passports, or student visas.
  • Provide the student's current email and phone number(if applicable).
  • Ensure the student is not registered in the chosen course(s) at any other school in the province.
  • Do NOT fill out more than one registration form.

On the rare occasion that a paper registration is needed, it can be accessed here.

TEACHER-DIRECTED ONLINE LEARNING

  • Course content is online, self-paced, and teacher-supported (asynchronous)
  • Independent student learning with the support of guardians
    • Engaging online curriculum
    • Follows Alberta curriculum for all core subjects
    • Individualized learning goals and extra supports
    • Teachers plan, assess, and provide continuous feedback throughout the year
    • Flexible or adaptable scheduling to meet your family needs (asynchronous schedule)
    • All resources are provided to support diverse learners
    • Field trips and extracurricular experiences available throughout Alberta
  • We are not a live online program (synchronous)
  • Teachers do not deliver daily online lessons to students (via Zoom or Google Meet)

PARENT-DIRECTED HOMESCHOOL EDUCATION

  • this program is for parents who desire to plan, teach and support their children's learning
  • Parents have flexibility and ownership to develop and select learning opportunities that best meet their children's individual needs
  • A certified teacher will facilitate and support the learning program throughout the year
  • Two formal evaluations allow learners to showcase their individual progress and learning
  • Funding is available to support learning

BLENDED (Program of Studies and Traditional Program) 

  • shared responsibility with parents and teacher
    • Teacher-directed Language Arts and Math
    • Parent-directed Science and Social Studies
    • Partial funding available to support learning

As of October 1st, there is a $225 fee to withdraw from any high school course.
